Our work: what is it?
A reluctant approach to our daily tasks can be the result of a selfish, materialistic outlook. Such an outlook asks, "What am I going to get out of this?" When we regard work as a necessary evil rather than a service, we obtain little, if any, reward of joy from it.
How can we improve our outlook, derive full satisfaction from our activities, advance spiritually, and at the same time benefit those around us?
First, we can remind ourselves that neither Christ Jesus nor Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, ever claimed to be the originator of anything. Christ Jesus said specifically, "I can of mine own self do nothing."John 5:30; He knew his every thought and act were God-impelled. Mrs. Eddy referred to herself as "Discoverer" and never sought to establish she was other than that. She knew Truth has always been present and needed only to be discovered.
