It has been eighteen years since my last testimony appeared in The Christian Science Journal. In the meantime I have retired and have found no end of wonders in the practical nature of the wonderful truth of Christian Science.

Some ten years ago I had three instances of what appeared to be heart attacks. I never went to a doctor to find out what they were. I told no one about the illness, not even my wife. The first time, I seemed to be passing on. I held to spiritual facts, knowing that man isn't going anywhere, as he lives in God; he is at this very moment a child of God, expressing all the qualities of God. Being His child, I must express health as God gives it. My movement, activities, and my expression of all-powerful Mind are what I had to recognize. I am sure I never prayed more fervently to see my perfect spiritual selfhood. It was only minutes before I began to feel God's presence, and in no time all fear was gone and I felt well. However, I had two more attacks; each one brought me to my knees; each one made me more humble. Each time my understanding of God's allness grew stronger. It has been over ten years now, and I have had no return of this ailment. How grateful I have been for Christian Science; it is so easy to apply—so natural to turn to God for healing. Paul puts it clearly (Acts 17:28): "For in him we live, and move, and have our being."

Another proof I had of God's care recently: I was doing some plumbing work for a relative, working under a house in very close quarters. I had cemented the fittings and placed them together. The fluid flew into my face and eyes, and as I couldn't see, I just lay back on the ground feeling God's presence. Many beautiful thoughts came to me; most were thoughts of gratitude. I ended my prayer with Mary Baker Eddy's definition of "morning," for I had just memorized it that week. As I went over each word (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 591), "Light; symbol of Truth; revelation and progress," I knew I had this light right here now, revealing the truth that Christ Jesus came to show. I realized that matter could not lift its ugly head. God is all power, all good. I understood progress is being proved right this minute. With these thoughts I opened my eyes and felt no more pain, and I finished the work. When I got home, my wife said, "Your face is all black." I went in the bathroom and peeled the cement off very easily. The day before, I had to use a paint remover to get the cement off my hands, but it came off my face easily. There was no damage to my eyes. Oh, how grateful I am for Christian Science. The simplicity of it! There have been students of Science in our family for seventy years, and the law of God has never failed when we applied it understandingly.
