THERE SPRINGS FIRST FAITH
Walled by limitation
the soil of thought grows barren
unrenewed
and hopes sprout slowly
sending wistful tendrils toward the gate.
Yet in that sterile place
from compost of the mortal hopes decayed
there springs first faith
and then conviction thrusting wide the gate,
opening to perception
verdant vistas
harvest promise
always waiting there beyond the walls.
