Letters to the Press
From Christian Science Committees on Publication
New Haven Register
New Haven, Connecticut
A reference in a news item which appeared in the Register some weeks ago ("Mother, 3 Others Booked...," September 30) may have left some readers with the impression that Scientology and Christian Science have a good deal in common.
In fairness to both groups, it needs to be pointed out that their teachings are basically dissimilar in direction as well as in detail.
Christian Science in the last analysis rests on a deep study and understanding of the Bible. Its focus is on spiritualization of thought and Christianization of life rather than physical well-being. Far from relying on psychological techniques and manipulation of the human mind to improve one's condition, it looks to the rule set forth by Jesus Christ himself.
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these (other) things shall be added unto you."
