From Christian Science Committees on Publication

In an article in the Evening Express on August 26, a statement was made which may have conveyed the impression that Christian Scientists are particularly concerned about blood transfusions. Such an impression is mistaken.

Christian Scientists greatly appreciate the work of unselfish doctors for those who rely on their services. However, for themselves, Christian Scientists prefer to rely on a system of healing that is wholly spiritual. Because this system is entirely separate from medical practice, they do not single out a particular medical treatment as being more or less incompatible with their practice. They would be no more likely to be concerned about blood transfusions than they would about any other form of medical treatment.

For the healing of illness and other everyday problems, Christian Scientists practice a form of treatment that is basically a matter of prayer—deep, consistent, understanding prayer. This is the treatment which they have found most effective in their own lives and which seems to them to be more truly in accord with the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.
