On the Way Home

"Gee, this street is dark tonight. The trees overhead make such black shadows; I can hardly see anything beyond twenty feet away....

"Sue said I should stop being so nonchalant about going out at night, but I haven't been paying any attention. What was it she said had happened just down on the next street the other night? I suppose it's wise to be a little more careful. ... But I have to go this way to get home from church.

"There's so much talk about the things kids do nowadays. ... The street seems so much longer than usual ... and pitch black.
