Is Christian Science Practical Wherever We Are?
"If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy had lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me." Ps. 139:9, 10;
This Bible passage always challenged me because I wondered if my faith in God was really applicable to the world. Were my ideals and faith the outcome of an easy, sheltered life, a middle-class environment, and then the comfortable ivory-tower existence of a university community? Could scientific prayer be applied everywhere with certain healing effect—and for others as well as myself? Could I rely on Christian Science in every emergency, even if my environment seemed hostile or without Christian background?
These and more unanswered questions continually tested my faith. I knew that as I graduated and moved out of my comfortable surroundings I would need answers. However, I worried that the answers would not always be positive and that I might fall victim to an environment I was not prepared for.
