When a young girl of sixteen I became ill with a heart condition and was confined to bed on my back for many months. Everything had to be done for me. We had very loving neighbors next door who went out of their way to show kindness. My mother liked to talk with the lady of the house, who one day gave my mother a Sentinel to read. Mother then gave it to me, and our hope began to grow.

Then Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was loaned to us. After perusing it myself I said to Mother, "Well, there is no need for me to be lying here, is there?" I then got up and sat on the edge of the bed, a very strange feeling after being on my back so long.

The neighbor invited Mother to the Christian Science church services; and later a Christian Science practitioner was engaged to treat me. I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School and there learned much to inspire and help me. This was a wonderful growing time for me as I listened to the other pupils telling of their healing experiences. Little by little I gained more of the understanding Science gives of the spiritual reality—that we live in God unafraid as the perfect creation of indestructible Life, God. Soon I was able to go back to school again and live a normal, happy life.
