Patrick's New Home

Patrick neighed his usual "good morning" as Jodi approached, but she wasn't listening. She just flung her arms around his neck and whispered sadly, "We're finding you another home. We can't keep you."

She remembered wanting a horse of her own, taking riding lessons and reading books about horse care. Then her father agreed to fence a corral and build a stall. What a day when they found Patrick O'Shaughnessy, a beautiful, big, black horse with four white feet and a white star! He was patient with her inexperienced ways. And there was a gentle strength in his enthusiasm for galloping on the trail and his willingness to pull the sleigh each winter.

Jodi grew a lot in those four years with Patrick. She became a horsewoman deserving a young thoroughbred to train for jumping competition. This new horse needed most of her time and effort and lovable Patrick had been outgrown.
