As a child raised in a Christian Science family I saw many wonderful healings. My parents, sometimes with the help of Christian Science practitioners, were always quick to meet our problems as they came up. But there came a time, when I was eighteen years old, that I was able to make this great healing power my own.
I had gone away to college when I was just seventeen, younger than most. I found being on my own for the first time a challenge. It took me a while to adjust to college life with the pressure of class requirements and schedules.
At this time I became engaged to a young man whom I had dated for only one month. He was drafted into Army and sent far from me. This was at the height of the Vietnam War, and I was overcome with concern. As I had known this young man for such a short time, I realized that our relationship needed to grow and mature. But this was very difficult with only short phone calls and frequent misunderstandings through our letters.
