Of and About

Our use of these two words spells the difference between thinking of ourselves as mortals and as immortals. Christian Science teaches us that mortals are not God's children. Immortals are. A mortal may think about God because, in his thought of himself, he is separated from God. But an immortal can only be conscious of God. He is one with Him, lives in Him, has his substance, consciousness, and life entirely in the divine Principle or Mind, named God.

The divine Principle is immortal. It has no beginning and no end. Its manifestation, man, necessarily reflects the qualities of Principle. Man coexists with Principle and is timeless. The truth of Principle reflected is the truth of man. The material view of Principle and man is not the truth. In some ways it may hint the truth or approximate it, but such a view, at best, would give the truth about, not the truth of.

This difference is significant when we decide to put the truths of Christian Science into practice for the purpose of healing sickness, lack, or other human discords. We first have to decide our viewpoint. Are we to view the situation from the standpoint of a mortal living among mortals in a material universe, or from the standpoint of an immortal reflection, or idea, of infinite Principle, divine Mind?
