What Is Your Business?

The one who can answer this question in his heart: "I am in my Father's business, reflecting infinite divine Life, Truth, and Love" is identifying his purpose wisely and well.

True business is knowing the truth that makes free. This business is always active, good, prosperous, and productive, never seasonable, not subject to economic changes and fluctuations of the market, capital, or labor. Christ Jesus, as he himself said at the early age of twelve, was about his Father's business. We too—whatever our human occupation—need to be in the same business. Christian Science presents to men a fresh and rousing view of Christ Jesus, of his mission and its tremendous importance in bringing practical salvation to mankind. The Master's authority over sin, disease, and death stemmed from his abundant manifestation of Christ, Truth, which has been expressed in lesser degree by spiritually-minded seekers of all time.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, speaks of Christ as the spiritual idea or reflection of God that comes in some degree to anyone who is receptive to Truth. And she writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets caught glorious glimpses of the Messiah, or Christ, which baptized these seers in the divine nature, the essence of Love." Science and Health, p. 333; Asked about the distinction between Jesus and Christ, a child once answered, "Jesus was his name; Christ was his business." When in the temple talking to the scholars, he said to those who sought him, "Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" Luke 2:49;
