God-inspired Intellect

Spiritual understanding is essential in comprehending God and the universe. Intellect, when spiritually inspired and directed, helps the sincere seeker reach this understanding. And it can protect him from the sophistry of matter-based intellectualism.

It is commonly believed that intelligence derives from intellect—from personal minds and their capacity for rational and intelligent thinking. Christian Science, acknowledging God, Spirit, as the one infinite Mind, teaches that intelligence is a faculty of Mind, reflected by individual man, God's idea. Inspired by God, intellect becomes the human expression of the divine intelligence. The highest intellect is that which manifests most the divine intelligence.

Human intellect may be spiritually or materially oriented, depending on the basis—Spirit or matter—of one's thinking, reasoning, judging. The premise we choose determines our ability to know God.
