HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

Yes, I do remember you now, Frank. Just barely. I'm surprised you're here. It's been twenty years! What made you come, anyhow? You were the backward boy with the torn jeans (it wasn't fashionable then) and the clumsy motorcycle boots—the kid from my homeroom with no friends.

Room 302. Remember Mr. Muller? And Vernon, Mary Kay, and Jim? Wonder where they are now, noisy bunch. But then, you were a loner.

Sure, I remember you, Frank, your way of staring hard at the floor or at the covers of the books you rarely read when someone spoke, your expression sad. I used to wonder what was going on, what was hidden in your heart. Were you as lonely as you looked? Or did you have a life on the "outside" hidden from the group? Perhaps you didn't need us. I hope so. School without friends is a downer.
