BACK FROM THE BRINK
Suddenly from head to toe I trembled—
not because I'd nearly plunged
into the pond to stay
but because I saw
the hugeness of my arrogance.
Who do you think you are? ...No other gods...
before the One who's Life.
If we could make or break
a separate life
we'd be as gods....
A great undrowning surge
washed over me:
the deep-down
meekness
of honoring my Father-Mother God
knowing no life to give or take away
and living—as I do this day—
to love.
