SPIRITUALIZING THOUGHT
through claiming divine intelligence
Christian Science teaches that God, Mind, is ever present, filling all space, and that man, the image and likeness of God, is inseparable from and has his being in this one divine source. The Apostle Paul in his Mars' Hill oration put it this way: "For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."Acts 17:28;
Man, then, created in God's image and likeness, reflects in infinite measure the intelligence of Mind. Therefore he can never lack or be without this intelligence, since he is never for an instant absent from his Maker, divine Mind. Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Intelligence is omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence. It is the primal and eternal quality of infinite Mind, of the triune Principle,—Life, Truth, and Love,—named God." Science and Health, p. 469; She further defines "intelligence" as "substance; self-existent and eternal Mind; that which is never unconscious nor limited." ibid., p. 588;
If intelligence, then, is a quality of God, it is available to each one of us. Christian Science teaches that divine intelligence is always directing and protecting us. But we have to listen for and be obedient to this direction. Answers, solutions, guidance, come through prayerful knowing of God as Mind, the source of all wisdom and understanding. Divine intelligence is always at hand. This intelligence is manifested in our experience as a useful idea. Obedience to this leading brings into our experience all we need. The Bible says, "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left." Isa. 30:21;
