Keeping Thought Free

In order to express healing power, we need to keep our thought free.

Sometimes when thought has been unguarded, we may suddenly become aware that mortal mind, or belief in a power apart from God, has deposited resentment, fear, envy, or pride. When this happens, we need to be ruthless in casting out the wrong attitude by the exercise of spiritual love—of forgiveness, humility, gratitude, and joy. If, through apathy or indifference, it is permitted to remain, eventually it will hatch and gradually take over until right, spiritual attitudes—legitimate thoughts—may be starved or crowded out.

We could save ourselves much trouble and many unhappy experiences if we were more instant in the detection and rejection of evil's intrusive suggestions before they hatch. When consciousness is animated by Christly watchfulness and love, it effortlessly rejects foreign elements. Understanding that God, divine Truth, equips us with the ability to recognize evil for what it is—nothing—enables us to expel it from thought before it becomes objective experience. In the face of the most plausibly presented temptation, we are free to act with the assurance of God-given dominion as we acknowledge good alone as real. This acknowledgment meets and defeats erroneous suggestions.
