When I was a junior in high school, my mother became seriously ill with paralysis of the bowels. The doctors recommended an exploratory operation, which she greatly feared. Remembering that her sister, after two unsuccessful operations for this same type of difficulty, had been completely healed by Christian Science, my mother called a Christian Science practitioner for help. The practitioner came to the house, and I too eagerly listened as she explained the spiritual truths of the Bible.

My mother was healed, and I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School.

I had long pondered the Master's words, "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30). I had an inward conviction that some day I would understand what he meant. As I applied what I was learning about man's at-one-ment or spiritual unity with God, a muscular tumor on my wrist disappeared.
