For over thirty years our family has received great blessings as a result of the study and application of Christian Science.

When our son was an infant, he manifested a physical problem we think a physician would have diagnosed as asthma. He also appeared to be allergic to certain foods. Although his condition improved through the work of consecrated Christian Science practitioners, the complete healing did not take place until he was about seven or eight years old. He was having a rather severe attack when I again called for the help of a practitioner. During the telephone conversation I said, "There is one consolation I receive from all this and that is that he will never have to go to war."

The practitioner immediately rebuked that erroneous thinking, pointing out to me that I was holding a false sense of mother love for the child that was having a smothering effect. She helped me see that service to one's country was a duty and showed me what Mary Baker Eddy had written in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 385): "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself."
