I owe my life to Christian Science and to the consecrated prayers...
I owe my life to Christian Science and to the consecrated prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. For this I will always be grateful. Over twenty-five years ago I was healed of extreme fear, especially the fear of passing on. I believe that the condition would have been medically diagnosed a nervous breakdown. It was not a quick healing, but it was accomplished by persistent declaring and holding to spiritual truths in the Bible and in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
The hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal were a very great help to me in overcoming fear. They were a constant reminder to trust in ever-present divine Love, its power and protection, and to overcome the aggressive suggestions of the reality of evil. Hymn No. 10, beginning with the words "All power is given unto our Lord," was especially inspiring to me.
I have had numerous other healings, such as those of bronchitis, tonsillitis, and colds, which I used to have every winter. I was also healed of a series of boils, abscesses, and sties when I first began the study of Christian Science. I was healed of colitis, which had recurred for many years. A few years ago I was healed of neuralgia after it had recurred several times. I had to learn that matter can have no pain or sensation. I learned that instant dismissal of the suggestions of pain as aggressive mental suggestions was the successful way of handling them. My gratitude for progress in spiritual understanding and the healing of these painful afflictions is unbounded.
