Changing Our Thinking
Christian Science clearly teaches that if we are to experience a more harmonious life, a change in our basic thinking is essential. Thinking founded on the false belief that man is a material being, living in a mortal body, a self-existent physical entity with a life and mind of his own separate from God, needs to be replaced, step by step, with thoughts based on the demonstrable truth that man is a spiritual being. He is an idea in divine Mind reflecting the unchanging goodness, perfection, and loveliness of his creator. God is his one and only source of being.
Mrs. Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health: "There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no other reality— to have no other consciousness of life—than good, God and His reflection, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses." Science and Health, p. 242;
To learn to establish our thinking on this true spiritual basis is to change our concept of life completely. When we do this, we perceive something of the burdenless character of real being. We experience a joy and a satisfaction material sense is totally unaware of. Keen observation reveals that the quality of the thoughts we entertain is all-important to us individually and collectively.
