God's Sustaining Presence

Are there times when the going gets rough, when the way seems entirely uphill, when we think that we're even losing ground? Many of us would probably answer Yes! On such occasions the thought might come, "How a boost from someone would help get me over this particular difficulty!" But often such experiences can strengthen us if they lead us to look for help from a higher source than persons or circumstances.

Christian Science emphasizes the fact that because God, infinite Spirit, is always at hand, man can never for a moment be separated from God's loving care. It shows that one is never in a position where in right thinking, or prayer, he cannot avail himself of the power and support of God's infinite love.

Mrs. Eddy repeatedly brings out this basic premise in her writings. Her opening sentence in the Preface of Science and Health is, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Science and Health, p. vii; Many have found this sentence a beacon of hope, an incentive to read on. The truth behind this momentous thought is applicable to every human situation, whether it be a problem of health, happiness, business, human relationships, or any other circumstance.
