Christian Science, the law of God, heals and makes whole
Christian Science, the law of God, heals and makes whole. This fact has been proven many times in my experience.
Looking back, I recall one of my first healings. As I stepped from a streetcar on my way to work, I sprained my ankle. I managed to hobble to the newspaper office where I worked as a reporter. At the first opportunity I phoned a Christian Science practitioner, who warmly assured me that in reality there are no accidents and nothing painful can ever happen to God's perfect child. When I hung up the receiver, I got up and walked without difficulty. The pain had left, and the swelling was going down.
What would be considered a more serious problem occurred later. For several weeks there were symptoms that something was wrong in my chest. I complied with the request of my employer, who felt that to protect others I should have an examination. A doctor at a large hospital had X rays taken, afterward showing me that they indicated I had tuberculosis. He advised me to quit work and go to a sanatorium in the nearby mountains. Instead, I sought help in prayer from a Christian Science practitioner, and in a few days the symptoms disappeared. Later, when I applied for enlistment in the Marine Corps and was asked about my medical record, I related the above experience. The doctor turned me over to a specialist, who found nothing wrong. There was no evidence of the disease.
My mother was a Christian Scientist. There was no Sunday School where we lived in North Dakota, but at an early age I began to study our wonderful textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. However, it was not until I left home to attend college in California that I seriously began to apply its teachings. I was not doing well in my studies. Finally I quit and got a job in a shipyard. I was very discouraged, but things took a turn for the better when I started to pick up Christian Science periodicals from a distribution box in a nearby railroad station and take them to my hotel room.
I had been smoking for several years. One noon at the shipyard I started to light a cigarette and suddenly to my amazement realized that I no longer wanted to smoke. The desire to smoke never returned. I began to attend church services. At the beginning of the second semester I returned to the university from which I later was graduated. While there I was active in the Christian Science organization. In 1926, I joined The Mother Church and a branch church, and later, after moving to another state, I served as First Reader in a Christian Science Society.
During a physical examination at the beginning of the Second World War, I was told that I would soon need glasses. I studied to know that man's ability to discern comes from divine Mind and cannot be impaired. Now, more than thirty years later, my vision is normal, and I have never worn glasses.
Throughout the years there have been trials and delayed healings because of my desire to hold on to matter in some form, but whenever I have sincerely and intelligently applied my understanding of Christian Science, my problems have been solved. I am grateful for a happy home with one who is also a Christian Scientist. Both of us have had the helpful experience of class instruction. Our son, now in high school, has not, with the exception of an attack of measles which lasted only one day, experienced any so-called children's diseases. The only time he has been in a doctor's office was to have a physical examination in connection with school athletics.
Today when the world seems so troubled on every hand, it is comforting to know that the healing Principle of the teachings of our Master, Christ Jesus, discovered and set forth in Christian Science by Mrs. Eddy, is here to meet mankind's needs.

I wish to confirm the testimony of my husband. While I did not witness the earlier healings, I can verify the fact that he depends entirely on Christian Science. Although he is well past the age of retirement, he is busy and interested in many activities. I became a Christian Scientist shortly after we were married and have received many blessings for which I am very grateful.
