Neither Plus nor Minus

Some of us feel we would certainly be happier if we had "more" —perhaps more money or more leisure, perhaps another car or a bigger house, or better health or a better job. The instinct for acquisition seems to be buried quite deep in many people's thinking. So when we are attacked by the desire to get more, let us examine carefully what is involved.

Christian Science teaches that no matter what the physical evidence and physical surroundings may be, each of us, now and unchangingly, is the child of God, made in His likeness and therefore complete. Paul writes, "Ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power." Col. 2:10; If this is a true and practicable proposition, then all of us have all we need every moment of every day, for God, being infinite Love, is not parsimonious or grudging. He fills our needs amply.

But our needs, which God thus fully supplies, are not invariably the same as our desires. A wise human father does not give his child a razor blade to play with, however much the child wants it; and in the same way God does not always fulfill all our wishes. So if we have any unfulfilled desires—let us leave them to God, and trust Him as our loving Father-Mother to give us what it is best for us to have and what we most need.
