Constant Vigilance Is Needed

Students of Christian Science early learn to affirm man's perfection, or his identity as the likeness of Spirit, God, thereby denying that he is a mortal. When confronted with a problem, most of us vigorously affirm this truth and deny the false premise of a material creation.

But are we always as vigorous in such affirmation and denial when things seem to be going smoothly? Don't we rather slip into the habit of more or less going along with the popular thought that man has a material body, which governs his health, activity, pleasure, supply?

Perhaps we even try to demonstrate through Christian Science a healthy material body. Does this mean that we should not have a healthy body? Of course not! It is right to be healthy, but we must be careful that we are not even halfway believing that our health is in a material body and governed by matter or so-called material laws. Rather, we must see that health is a spiritual quality inseparable from the real, or spiritual, man. When the health we enjoy is demonstrated through Christian Science, it is the proof that we are realizing something of our true spiritual identity.
