The Forever Present Christ

At Christmastime the glory of God's great gift to the world unites Christendom in a bond of peace and goodwill. Once again the angelic song is heard: "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:10,11;

To the Christian Scientist, it is a holy time, a time for greater consecration, for he knows that the Saviour's mission was to free mankind from bondage to materiality. In spite of all the commercialism and excessive material activity, he is grateful for the increased expression of joy and brotherhood manifested at the Christmas season. But he is especially grateful for the living sense of Christ, Truth, that has come to him through Christian Science, as revealed by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. He rejoices that this ever-present Christ, the divine nature, is the ever-present Saviour from all the errors of mortal existence.

This Christ is a vital, active force, unseen by the material senses. But its presence is felt. Christ is the power of God that comes to human experience. It casts out fear. It destroys disease and sin. It brings a vital awareness of the all-embracing love of God, a glimpse of spiritual reality. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy writes of the spiritual sense that came to her with her discovery of Christian Science: "It was the living, palpitating presence of Christ, Truth, which healed the sick." Science and Health, p. 351;
