One Shepherd, Twelve Sheep

[For young teens]

They were lost.

Ten young girls and two college seniors. The twelve of them had started hiking at daybreak. They had climbed a rugged mountain, had eaten lunch at the summit, and now it was nearly five thirty in the afternoon; and they had lost the trail home.

If they had been on the correct trail, they would have been able to see the parking lot where the truck had agreed to meet them at four. But they could not see the parking lot; they were lost.
