One night I awoke with a very painful sore throat, so painful...

One night I awoke with a very painful sore throat, so painful that I knew I must do something about it at once. Recent thoughts about seeing "through a glass, darkly," had been illuminated for me when reading Mrs. Eddy's book, Miscellaneous Writings. These thoughts came to me and enabled me to see the situation in its true light. Paul writes (I Cor. 13:11, 12): "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child ...: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face."

I saw that I must put aside the dark glass. God, the creator of the universe, has no dark glass. He has made all that exists, and it is very good. I then realized that pain is an illusion. The pain immediately lessened, and in a few minutes it had ceased completely and did not return. Filled with gratitude, I was awed as I realized what had happened. I had put aside my dark glass and was seeing the situation from God's point of view. This dispelled the pain, thus proving its illusory character and confirming the unalterable perfection of God's spiritual creation.

I am indeed most grateful for Mrs. Eddy, who, through her inspired life and writings and the founding of Christian Science, has brought us a renewed understanding of the truth of God taught and practiced by Jesus Christ.
