On page 449 of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes, "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." This was proven to be true in my experience when I first began the study of Christian Science over thirty years ago.

As a child I was extremely fond of ice-skating and remained out of doors each day as long as possible to enjoy this sport when there was ice. On one particularly cold day I stayed out longer than usual. That night I awoke with severe pain in my hands that according to a medical verdict was frostbite. At that time we knew nothing of Christian Science, and a material remedy was used to relieve the condition. However, from then on the pain returned whenever my hands became very cold. After I had begun the study of Christian Science, I was faced with this problem again. I prepared the material remedy as usual. Suddenly the thought came, "If Christian Science really does heal, why can't it heal your hands?"

I threw away the medication without using it and later in the evening took all of Mrs. Eddy's writings with me to a relative's house where I had been asked to care for the children. After the parents were gone and the children asleep, I started to read and continued for some hours. I fell asleep for a short time and awakened with the strong conviction, "You are healed," and I was. That was the end of the difficulty until about seven years ago when it presented itself to me again in a milder form.
