Buying for Ourselves
Mortals face finity and limitation at every stage of their existence; they believe that even life itself eventually flickers out in death. Their health and strength may fail; their joy may wane; their wealth may dwindle away. It is then they yearn for something higher and more permanent than the darkness and doubt of mortal life. Faithfully developing this spiritual desire, they will find a permanent sense of good, a joy that does not fade.
One of Christ Jesus' parables relates how the foolish virgins found themselves in a miserable situation. They had lost their spiritual light. In their midnight hour they pleaded with the wise virgins, "Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out." Matt. 25:8; The reply must have startled and aroused them, "Go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves."
Here, then, is our answer. Christian Science shows us where to go and how to buy for ourselves. It teaches us to go straight to God, the infinite source of spiritual understanding and illumination. In this light of spiritual understanding, God is revealed as everpresent Love, the infinite source of all good, the Giver of all life. Here is found health, joy, and abundance without end.
