"The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love" (Science and Health, p. 113). These words of Mrs. Eddy's have been the basis of many healings for me. I should like to relate three in particular.

The first occurred about eleven years ago when I was on a trip to the East Coast with my parents. We walked for hours every day, sight-seeing, although I was bothered by a swelling in my knee which made every step very painful. I was so anxious to see everything that I did not take time to do adequate prayerful work in Christian Science. On the way home we stopped to visit the college I was planning to attend, and I had wonderful visits with members of the faculty and student body, all of whom were Christian Scientists. They all expressed so much love that I immediately felt that I was in my right place. On my second day there I realized that the swelling and pain in my knee were entirely gone. I was healed simply by returning the love expressed by those around me.

More recently I have experienced two healings, also based on Love, which took much more work on my part. My young son slammed a door on his little sister's fingers, crushing two of them. At first I was very angry with him for hurting his sister, but then I realized that anger never improved any situation and that he had not hurt her intentionally. Since I was quite fearful about the condition of the fingers, I called a Christian Science practitioner to help me know the truth of God's children.
