Christian Science has proved itself to be the truly reliable protection...

Christian Science has proved itself to be the truly reliable protection in my life. My father brought Christian Science into our home while I was in my teens. My husband and I have experienced many healings and divinely directed guidance in the years we have been privileged to rely completely upon God's power and to trust Him in the way Mrs. Eddy taught us. We reared our son without any medical assistance whatsoever. He was a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School until the age of twenty.

During the summer of 1966 our son and his wife and year-and-a-half-old boy and I went up to Lake Arrowhead. Upon arrival at our cottage we all settled down for a rest. I immediately began to study the lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, and other writings of Mrs. Eddy. God's voice plainly told me that I should do specific prayerful work for myself and my family this day, and I did, declaring out unity with God, knowing that this days unfoldment of this oneness could not be interfered with. Statements studied from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy included (p. 33): "When the human element in him struggled with the divine, our great Teacher said: 'Not my will, but Thine, be done!'—that is, Let not the flesh, but the Spirit, lie represented in me." In the Bible I found comfort and assurance in Psalm 71 (verse 1): "In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion."

I knew that only unfoldment of good from God was going on. Also a passage from Science and Health came to my thought and was quietly, gratefully acknowledged (p. 339), "Since God is All, there is no room for His unlikeness." There were many other references which proved our protection. Listening for God's guidance became the predominant thought of the day, and a feeling of satisfied, trustful peace became apparent.
