Responsibility for Children

A responsible attitude of a parent toward a child would naturally include affording the child the most advanced and efficacious care for his health that the parent is capable of. This is a normal response for all parents; and for the parent who is a Christian Scientist, it would call for the application of this Science to the child's needs. Anything contrary to this procedure would be quite abnormal.

There is a choice available regarding the type of healing method one would follow; and within reasonable regard for the rights and welfare of others as required by the law of the land, each one should be free to follow the healing method of his choice. This is particularly true when this healing method has stood the test of time and experience and has the basic precedent of Christ Jesus' healing and teaching to rest upon.

In Christian Science, which is the explanation of Jesus' method, one turns to an understanding of God as infinite Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love, and to an understanding of the nature of man made in God's likeness. Jesus taught his followers to depend upon the power of God, which is applied through prayer; and he proved the efficacy of this method through healing all types of ills—mental, moral, organic, and functional, even to the point of raising the dead. The power of God is purely spiritual. Jesus never depended upon matter or physical means in any of his healing works. Referring to the spiritual power to heal, he said, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." John 14:10;
