I am most grateful to have had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School up to the age of twenty years and for the inspired teachers who provided me with a solid foundation in Christian Science. This understanding of God as our Father-Mother, all-powerful and ever available, has helped me weather many a storm in my human experience.

Our family has had numerous healings, but one that stands out vividly in my memory occurred about nine years ago. Our son, then about ten or eleven years old, had a recurring problem. It seemed that whenever he had a cold or did not feel well, his ear was affected and gave him much pain. Because I felt our main problem was fear of this malady, I held to the Bible verse (II Tim. 1:7), "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." We studied Mrs. Eddy's definition of "ears" in the Glossary of Science and Health, part of which reads(p. 585): "Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding." Although we had help from Christian Science practitioners for this condition over a period of two years, it would recur every once in a while.

One winter day our son stayed home from school because this condition was very severe. Together we applied the truths as given in "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health, the first line of which is: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." We declared his perfection as a child of God. My thought was very clear in the realization of his unity with God. He still seemed to get no relief, so I decided to take him to the practitioner's office.
