Are You Willing?
Are you willing to be rid of physical discomfort, unhappy relationships, grief? If you are like most people, you will probably agree that you are very willing indeed—and right now!
Willingness to be healed in Christian Science, however, is an attitude that should plunge much deeper than the superficial, selfish, or overidealized wants of any human being. In its deeper meaning this willingness is significant of a tireless longing to possess that which is truly substantial and good, to know and do the will of God. It involves exchanging a limited and material view of life for an understanding of spiritual reality, giving up a personal sense of the way things ought to be, and accepting the Christly view of God's perfect creation as it really is.
Christian Scientists are not primarily concerned with changing physical conditions or circumstances, although progressive changes in human experience do come about in the natural course of Christian Science treatment. Christian Scientists understand that their experience is the product of their thinking; so when a problem arises, their first concern is with changing, correcting, human consciousness. Christian Science healing is a matter of exchanging false, material concepts for true ideas.
