"A germ of infinite Truth, though least in the kingdom of heaven, is the higher hope on earth, but it will be rejected and reviled until God prepares the soil for the seed" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 361). It took almost twenty years of preparation before my mental soil was ready for the seed of Truth.
Though I attended a Christian Science Sunday School from the age of two until I was out of high school, I took all the good I had received for granted. In fact I resented being different from my friends because I was never allowed to use any kind of medicine. And I thought my mother was old-fashioned in her attitude toward drinking and smoking. After high school I went modern; I drank socially, smoked, and tried to find happiness and an easier way to live other than by the strict rules of Christian Science.
