RADIO PROGRAM No. 121 - The Cure for Disease

INTERVIEWER: Sometime ago at a convention of the American Medical Association, a new department of religion and medicine was set up. Commenting on this development, Dr. Edward H. Rynearson of the Mayo Clinic made this statement: "More than 50 per cent of the patients in any waiting room are there because of the vicissitudes of life." He also said that in his opinion, strong religious beliefs would protect people from tension and anxieties, which might otherwise be very harmful. This struck me as being quite a revealing statement. What do you think about this?

SPEAKER: Well, it certainly shows that there is a growing recognition of the importance of mental factors. Christian Science teaches that all disease goes back to a mental origin; it is never considered to be simply a physical condition. The recognition of this fact is a step toward discovering the real cure.

INTERVIEWER: What do you mean by "the real cure"?
