Just over two years ago, when...
Just over two years ago, when everything seemed a total blank and I thought I could no longer go on living, a dear friend gave me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. A few weeks after I began reading this precious book, the desire for drinking and smoking left me. Knowing that freedom is my God-given heritage, I have neither smoked nor had an alcoholic drink since. Before I started the study of Christian Science, I had attempted several times to overcome the desire for smoking by willpower but had failed. Through the consecrated support of a practitioner, I was healed in two weeks of piles, from which I had been suffering for over ten years. For six years I was treated by doctors in my own country. Many patent drugs were also recommended and tried, but there was no permanent relief.
When I came to London I consulted many doctors and specialists; but although they did their best for me for four years, the pain only subsided for a while and returned worse than ever. The healing of the piles through prayer in Christian Science convinced me of its efficacy and substantiated the Psalmist's description of God as the Lord "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases" (Ps. 103:3).
I was also healed of a deep sense of grief, loss, and separation, and I now rejoice to know that happiness is of God, who is divine Love and who fills all space. In this Love there is neither grief, loss, nor separation. I also know that since happiness and peace of mind are of God, the world can neither give them nor take them away from us.
