Christian Science was first presented to me when I was fourteen by a relative who had been healed of a nervous breakdown and who longed to see me freed from the state of semi-invalidism which had bound me from early childhood. Although I was willing to accept Science at that time, I did not on account of my mother's opposition to it. Several years later, however, my mother became so disturbed over my condition that she prevailed upon me to seek the help of a Christian Science practitioner.

For many years I had suffered from periodic attacks of bronchitis, which kept me confined to the house from four to eight weeks at a time. Because three members of the family had passed on with pulmonary disease, I had been kept under the watchful eye of a physician, and the fear that I would develop the same disease almost overwhelmed me. The ministrations of the practitioner, however, and the earnest study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in conjuction with the Bible, freed me from this intense fear.

The attacks became less frequent and severe as fear was replaced in my consciousness by trust in God and in the power of His Word. This promise from the Scriptures helped to lift the weight of fear (Jer. 31:29): "They shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge." I learned that man, who is really a child of God, cannot inherit anything unlovely, since he can inherit only good from a loving Father-Mother God.
