On my return from service in...
On my return from service in the Second World War, I met and married my present wife. It was through her that I first became acquainted with Christian Science, to which she had turned for help in a severe difficulty and from which she received her healing.
At that time I was in a poor state mentally and physically; I was a heavy smoker and a regular drinker and was constantly taking medicines of one kind or another. After I had been attending services at a Church of Christ, Scientist, for some months, I began to feel that here was something which was different from the orthodox views of religion I had known and which furthermore produced results.
I began a systematic study of Christian Science. Healings followed. I was instantaneously healed of lifelong constipation when I realized that I was believing pills could do something for me that God, divine Mind, could not do. The absurdity of this was so clear to me that I was permanently healed that morning. The desire to smoke just fell away from me, and I stopped.
