I became interested in Christian Science...

I became interested in Christian Science after witnessing the healing of my mother of a broken rib. There was no Christian Science practitioner near; so my mother wrote to one she knew in a distant city. The very hour that the letter reached the practitioner, the healing was accomplished. One thing that attracted my attention and astounded me was the power of prayer, even though the practitioner giving treatment lived a considerable distance away.

Many years later, when my husband and I had children of our own, one of our sons developed a severe case of whooping cough. I thought of my mother's healing and called a practitioner. Our son was completely healed overnight. Through much study following this healing, it unfolded to me that God is the only Father-Mother. As a result I was able to release our son from the fears of his human parents.

In rearing five children in the ensuing years, we have had many proofs of God's power to heal. Colds, measles, pneumonia, fevers, effects of ivy poisoning, all have been overcome.

One healing in particular stands out in my thought. One of our sons had a severe cold and a very high fever. I sang to him Hymn No. 181 from the Christian Science Hymnal and lifted my thought above the testimony of the material senses. The first verse of this hymn reads.

Loving Father, we Thy children
Look to Thee in fear's dark night
While the angels of Thy presence
Guide us upward to the light.

Shortly thereafter the child was breathing normally and fell asleep. He awoke completely healed.

I am very grateful that Mrs. Eddy left us this rich legacy, the law of God, to disannul the material law. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the periodicals. —(Mrs.) Urma Ruth Hargus, San Antonio, Texas.
