I found Christian Science at a...
I found Christian Science at a time of great need over thirty years ago, while I was living in the Far East. Our little son, then three years old, had been taken with a serious fever and had been in bed three months, getting no better in spite of all the efforts of the doctors. Some time before his illness Christian Science had been brought to my attention, and I had been attracted by it and thought it sounded interesting. In my hour of need I felt that the time had come for me to turn to Christian Science, and I went to visit a Christian Science practitioner.
During my first talk with her I felt confident that the little boy would get well quickly. My fear and anxiety for him completely left me, and the dark forebodings of the doctor, who still was visiting him, did not worry me. I ceased taking his temperature or giving him any medicine, and he rapidly improved. After ten days he was out of bed and riding the little tricycle that had been given him the day before he was taken ill. Our joy and gratitude were great. Soon he was well and strong again.
Shortly after this healing I experienced my own first healing. I had suffered for quite some time from what I supposed was fallen arches, though the doctor did not seem to know quite what the trouble was. I suffered much pain in the foot, leg, and hip, and this condition interfered with my walking. I asked for help from the same practitioner who had worked for our son, and she lovingly promised to help me and told me to study "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). One day when the pain was intense I telephoned to ask her what was to be done. as I felt I could not stand the pain any more. She said. "You do not want to go back to error, do you?" I answered, "No," and at the same time I kicked an arch support out of my shoe. After that my fool rapidly improved, and the trouble soon disappeared and has never returned.
