Two weeks after I learned of...
Two weeks after I learned of Christian Science, my little son's arm became badly infected with blood poisoning. Though enthusiastic about this glorious truth, which had already given me hope and courage, I did not believe I was ready to test its healing power. I took the boy to a doctor, who said the arm would have to be removed. I could not accept this, so the following day we had a consultation of several physicians in one of Chicago's biggest hospitals. They too said amputation would be necessary, as the infection had reached the bone. This verdict was given on a Saturday. I was to return on Monday with the child for the operation.
Upon reaching home, I put the child to bed and applied alternate hot and cold applications, as the physician had instructed. In between times I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, to calm my thought.
When my husband came home and I told him the verdict, he replied, "I don't believe that." This awakened my thought, and I answered. "Of course it can't be true, for God is perfect, and man is made in His image and likeness." With this all fear left me, and all the beautiful truths I had been reading in our textbook flooded my consciousness. I no longer looked at a swollen arm, but my thought remained exalted, and I caught a glimpse of the real man, who is the reflection of the one Mind. With this freedom, I dressed the child and sent him out to play. When he returned thirty minutes later, and I was washing him, I realized that both arms were the same size. The infected one had been at least four times its normal size.
