COMPLETENESS

The term "marriage" is used both literally and figuratively in the Bible. Its spiritual meaning indicates the unity of God and man.

Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated man's oneness with God, whom he called "Father." He said (John 17:22, 23), "And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one."

The oneness of God, Truth and Love, and man's oneness with Him as idea sound the keynote of spiritual creation. Christian Science teaches, in accord with Scripture, that God is Spirit, Mind, Principle, Soul, Life, Truth, Love, and that He creates man in the image and likeness of Himself. The likeness of Spirit, Mind, is not flesh or matter, but spiritual reflection; the likeness of Life is not sickness or death, but health and immortality; nor is envy, fear, or hate the image of Truth and Love. The various synonyms for God are all one in essence. They constitute the fullness, the completeness, yea, the allness and perfection of God, in whom are both cause and effect. God is cause and man effect, and both are one as Principle and idea, even as a ray of light is one with its source, the sun.
