Christian Science came into my life thirty-seven years ago, at a time when I was feeling very much dissatisfied with orthodox religion. I had always loved the Bible and believed that all things were possible to God. I went from one church to another seeking a religion which accorded with the teachings of Jesus, because I was unable to accept the sorrow and sickness in the world as the will of God. It seemed illogical to care for the sick, and to try to find healing for them, if it were God's will for them to suffer or die.

Just then the pastor of the church of which I was a member announced a sermon against Christian Science. This was the first time I had heard those words which have meant so much to me since. I found myself wishing I could find out something about this subject so that I might better understand the sermon. A day or two later I was asked to attend a Christian Science testimony meeting, and never shall I forget that experience. I went to the meeting weighed down with anxiety and care, but I came away with joyous expectation and an entirely new outlook on life. My feeling was expressed in the words of a hymn which was sung that evening (Hymnal, No. 148):
