The Essential Industry

That beautiful story, recorded in St. Luke's Gospel, of Jesus, then a boy of twelve years, sitting in the temple among the doctors "both hearing them, and asking them questions," must always be a source of inspiration to those who are tempted to believe that a lack of book-learning may retard their growth in studying the Scriptures or Christian Science. Such doubts will be dissolved if one refers to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for enlightenment.

"Understanding is a quality of God, a quality which separates Christian Science from supposition and makes Truth final," Mrs. Eddy writes on page 506 of this textbook; while on the preceding page she says, "This understanding is not intellectual, is not the result of scholarly attainments; it is the reality of all things brought to light."

Jesus' simple reply when asked why he remained behind in the temple, "Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" expressed a profound truth—the purpose of man.
