Church Dedications
Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.
Hobart Gazette
Hobart, Indiana (First Church).
Dedication services were held by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hobart, on Sunday, November 7, 1943.
The present site of the new church was purchased in 1937, ground was broken in April, 1941, and the cornerstone laid in August of the same year. In October, 1941. the first service was held in the basement of the building.
Christian Science was introduced in Hobart in 1912. Two years later, a small group held services in a private home. When the number increased, quarters were secured at the old Gem Theater, where Christian Science Society, Hobart, was organized.
The society moved to a building on Main Street in 1917. where it held services until 1941. Then the members obtained temporary quarters at the Odd Fellows Hall until their new church edifice was completed.—Hobart Gazette.
