It is with deepest gratitude for Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, that I am sending this testimony.

From childhood I had been a sufferer from so-called hereditary migraines. After my marriage and the birth of a daughter, these became so violent that I resorted to narcotics as a means of relief. This proved to be only temporary, however, and within a period of eighteen years I underwent twelve major operations without any apparent benefit.

Also, during that time, tuberculosis and cancer seemed evident, and much time and money were spent on change of climate and sanatoriums. One day my physician told me plainly that I had become addicted to the drugs I was taking. I was young and, seeing a very black future ahead, I decided to end it all; so tried to commit suicide. The doctor told my loved ones that it would be beneficial to me if I were admitted to a hospital for the insane. However, in two weeks the institutional authorities discharged me, stating that I was entirely sane. But I had by this time decided that I loved no one, and that I would get all out of life I could, regardless of the outcome.
