When I was a young woman I began to question the doctrines of my church. I could not accept the common belief in regard to atonement and eternal punishment. I read the New Testament, searching for the truth, and was impressed as never before with the many healings recorded there. I experienced a beautiful healing through faith, and then and there came a desire to investigate Christian Science. Not long after this I went out west to visit a sister and found that her most intimate friends were Christian Scientists. I began to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and realized that it contained the truth for which I had been searching.
For many years I have relied on this Science for my healing, and have had many wonderful proofs of its power. In about an hour's time I was healed of the effects of a fall downstairs, which had left me in such a helpless condition that I could not raise myself in bed.
While on my way to Boston one summer, I became very ill. After I reached there a practitioner was called, who later had me moved to The Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium. Although I was raised from "the valley of the shadow," I remember nothing much of this experience except the love and kindness that surrounded me. It was indeed heaven on earth to me. The healing was slow, for I had to be purified of the poison of wrong thinking that I had allowed to accumulate. I had to learn to walk again, and I remember that at first I felt humiliated at being taken out in a rolling chair. Soon, however, a flood of gratitude for the chair and the faithful nurses filled my consciousness. It was a revelation to me to see everyone so filled with the spirit of Christian Science. My gratitude to all connected with the institution, and to the practitioner who so faithfully guided me through this experience, is unbounded. It has been my privilege to visit Boston since that time and to learn more of all the activities of the movement.
