"There were they in great fear, where no fear was"

"There were they in great fear, where no fear was." This statement by the Psalmist was proved true in my experience more than sixteen years ago in my first healing through Christian Science.

At that time I had been a sufferer from gallstones and inflammation of the bladder for several years. Various physicians had been consulted, but all were unable to give any help except by administering morphine. These attacks came at intervals of four to five months, and each time morphine was given. Each attack was a little more severe and it took a little longer for me to regain strength. I lived in constant fear: there was dread of the return of the intense pain, but much greater dread of the morphine.

Just at this time a dear friend, hearing of my suffering, sent me a package of Christian Science literature and an account of her own healing through Christian Science. Although greatly prejudiced against what I supposed Christian Science to be, I read every word she had sent me. There was not much of it that I understood, except the testimonies of the many persons who had experienced healings of all kinds of disease from their study of its teachings.
